Huben (Huub van Leuven, Haarlem, 1964) constructs his paintings. Literally. His work originates from a deeply rooted physical relationship with material and space.

As both an artist and a contractor, he operates within a field of tension where structure meets intuition, and the building of spaces becomes intertwined with the search for meaning. For Huben, building is not a technique, but a way of perceiving. It is as if he sees with his hands, and the eye only follows later.

Each work functions as a visual diary: a record of the everyday, the unexpected, the morally ambiguous.
Sometimes light, sometimes unsettling, but always sincere. Not to judge, but to question: what do we see? What do we forget to feel?

His works exist on the boundary between the raw and the vulnerable, the physical and the ethical.
They do not speak to the eye alone, but to the body. To the awareness that art can be built like a place, a place to inhabit, to relate to, to disappear into, or simply to be.
