aleksandreWe speak with Aleksandra Adamchyk, Founder of Aleksandra Adamchyk Interiors, an Amsterdam-based design studio specializing in crafting unforgettable hospitality spaces. With an impressive portfolio spanning renowned brands like Nobu Hospitality and Raffles Hotels, Aleksandra offers a unique perspective on the world of hotel design.

Please give us an introduction to yourself and your experience in the design industry

Aleksandra Adamchyk Interiors is an Amsterdam based interior design studio specialising in hospitality interiors.

In the last 15 years, I completed an extensive international portfolio ranging from bars, restaurants, hotels, retail and residential interiors while working with numerous international clients and studios in Berlin, London and Amsterdam.

I've worked on projects for brands like: Nobu Hospitality, Raffles Hotels, The Berkeley, The Savoy, One Aldwych Hotel, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Rhubarb Hospitality Collection, Solutions Leisure Dubai, Atlantic Group Melbourne, The Ascott Limited, Vastint Hospitality, Jamie Oliver, Harrods and also independent hospitality clients.

Recently we completed the Sakebar by Nobu in Warsaw for the Nobu Hospitality brand, for which we were shortlisted for The International Hotel & Property Awards.

Currently, I am starting work on a very exciting lifestyle hotel project for Accor and Ennismore.

What do you enjoy most about working with hotels and hospitality businesses?

I have a genuine passion for hospitality in all aspects: design, travel, the comfort of the guest room, the attractiveness of out-of-room amenities in the hotel, the strength of the food and beverage concept, relevance to the local context, social media image, ...and the secret ingredient that makes the guest choose one particular hotel or restaurant. Exploring what makes people tick and creates a desire to return. The privilege and responsibility of creating a background for guest’s experiences and memories.

I love the complexity of the hospitality projects and the extensive knowledge I expand with every new project. I enjoy the amount of people involved from different professional backgrounds and forging the relationships that last beyond the project.

And the rewarding feedback of the guests once they resonate with the space's unique identity and become the venue’s fans and advocates.

aleksandreWhere do you find inspiration for your designs?

We believe genuine inspiration and exceptional storytelling are necessary solid bases for each hospitality project. Inspiration comes organically from different angles: it can be the heritage of the building, the local context, history or nature, or we find it in the brand’s tone of voice.

We love to challenge the guest and to tell the story in a sophisticated, authentic and indirect way. Concealed references are read throughout in the proportions and shapes, nuanced colour palette, surfaces and structures and crafted details. We intrigue the guests to intuitively unveil the message and discover something new each time they return.

Are there specific elements or themes you prioritise in your hotel designs?

The most important is to be on one page with the client. We work closely with the client’s team on adapting the brand’s standards into the space from the functional, operational and budget perspective. Simultaneously we are building up the layers of storytelling to capture the brand’s personality. I believe that good interior design should dress up and serve the functionality of the space to allow the guest’s journey to flow seamlessly from arrival to departure.  We aim to create an atmosphere that triggers sensitivity and evokes emotions.

The opportunity to implement the customised pieces of furniture and lighting allows us to oversee each detail and create a cohesive look. Personalised touch comes in the selection of curated art, vintage and collectable design pieces.

aleksandreHow do you integrate sustainability into your hotel designs, and what sustainable practices do you prioritise?

We always prioritise local contractors, manufacturers and suppliers. We choose durable and low-maintenance materials that not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also withstand daily operations. To our delight, we convinced a few of our clients to choose vintage pieces. If curated wisely vintage furniture and lighting add plenty of character and authentic depth to the storytelling and might be a great investment over time.

Are there any emerging design trends that you find particularly exciting or influential in the industry?

AI of course. Internet is already full of amazing futuristic AI and Generative Design created hospitality spaces which are helping to push the industry standard’s boundaries and convince the clients to bold design decisions. AI is adding the next layer to our expertise as interior designers: how to personalize the room to meet each customer’s specific needs from light ambience to preferred artwork on demand.

Considering the theme 'Dreamland' for the Independent Hotel Show Amsterdam, how would you envision and design your dreamland when it comes to creating a hotel space? Are there specific elements or features that immediately come to mind in aligning with this theme?

In the competitive hotel scene where standing out is essential, it is becoming more and more about surprise and adventure. Extra offerings like an in-house cinema, a fashion retail pop-up,  collaboration with a local guide for personalized art or foodie tours. All about exceptional experiences, a trip you could only dream of.

What do you look forward to most at the Independent Hotel Show?

I am planning to attend a few seminar sessions and I am looking forward to the networking opportunities!
