Mabo Plate
The new Mabo Plate looks as if it is made from marble, but it is not. It is made entirely from recycled plastic food containers. The designer duo Vanessa Yuan and Joris Vanbriel have developed a technique that allows the reclaimed plastic to be an integral part of the production process; its authentic characteristics organically form a vein-like pattern and create an earthy colour palette. Colour schemes and patterns follow a gradient progression, which produce a series of six soft tonal shades.
The resulting tableware is a stylish embellishment to dining.
Merging aesthetics and functionality, the plate shape has been designed to be pleasant to use. A double-curved side wall presents a small step that helps to slide the food onto utensils, while the external part provides an ergonomic and balanced holding support. Smooth-edged with a deep and wide shape, it can be used both as a serving dish and as a multi-purpose bowl. The Mabo Plate demonstrates that upcycled material can be used to create a striking centrepiece.
Mabo Plate has been chosen by gallerist Rossana Orlandi, Michelin Star Chefs Seppe Nobels and Nathan Van Echelpoel.
